Time to turn off your computer, mute your phone and sharpen your crayons! It’s time to color in the seasons!

Introducing Heather Hardison’s new illustrated series for coloring what’s in season (pages 40-41 in the winter 2016 issue). Coloring books for adults were a surprise smash hit category for book publishers in 2015. As senior associate editor Julie Beck of the Atlantic recently noted; “have never changed my mind about anything as quickly or completely as I changed my mind about adult coloring books.… There’s something satisfying about seeing your thought and effort create a tangible, pretty thing at a reasonable, predictable pace. This rarely happens in life.”

Each issue this year will feature a two page illustration based on what’s in season, and it’s your task to color in the blanks with your favorite media, whether it's crayons, watercolors, pencils or even digital brushes. Inspired by David Hockney’s iPad masterpieces, we half colored in the example above on our iPad.

And we want to see your masterpieces!

Send us your finished work and we’ll pick our favorites and reprint them in the Spring issue. By sending us your work, you’ll also be automatically registered for a chance to win a copy of Hardison’s first book, Homegrown: Illustrated Bites from Your Garden to Your Table (Stewart, Tabori & Chang, 2015).

Mail (originals or copies of) your hand-colored work to:
